About ChatToPDF

Who built this tool, and why it works the way it does.

I’m Paul, and I built ChatToPDF. It started with a problem I had myself: I needed a clean, readable copy of a long WhatsApp conversation — properly dated, with who said what — to hand to a solicitor for a court matter. Screenshots ran to hundreds of images. WhatsApp’s own “Export Chat” produced a messy text file that no one wanted to read. The print-to-PDF trick fell apart after about forty messages.

So I wrote something that does the boring part properly: it takes the file WhatsApp gives you and turns it into a paginated PDF with every message, timestamp and sender name in place — and, if you need them, the photos inline and the voice notes transcribed. That’s the whole tool.

What ChatToPDF actually does

You export a chat from WhatsApp on your phone, drop the .txt or .zip file into the uploader, and get back a formatted PDF (plus an Excel/CSV version) in about thirty seconds. On the voice tiers it transcribes the embedded .opus voice notes into searchable text and drops each transcript at the right point in the conversation. The full walkthrough is in the WhatsApp to PDF guide, and the voice side is covered in transcribe WhatsApp audio.

The principles I run it on

Pay per chat, never a subscription. One payment converts one chat. There’s no account, no login, and nothing renews. If you only need this once, you pay once.

Your chat is private and short-lived. Files are encrypted in transit and at rest, no human ever reads them, and both the upload and the output are deleted automatically seven days after the job is created. I keep no copy.

No overclaiming. I’m not a lawyer and ChatToPDF doesn’t give legal advice — it produces a faithful, dated record of what was already in your chat. What it can and can’t do is written plainly on each page, including where transcription accuracy drops on noisy audio.

Why “Paul”

Paul is the name I write and answer support under. The guides on this site are written in the first person because one person really does build and run the tool — when you email support, you’re reaching me. You’ll find the same voice on the ChatToPDF Dev.to and on YouTube.

Questions, or a chat that won’t convert?

If something about your export misbehaves — an odd date format, a broken ZIP, RTL text — get in touch and I’ll sort it, usually the same day. You can also convert a chat now from $7.
